Golden Age Developments

Unread postby august1929 » Mon Dec 08, 2025 3:23 am

Just a bit of a heads up on a freeware/payware developer for anyone interested in the UK side of the Pond. For information I have no association with GAD other than being a very happy user of their skillful work.

The website link gives access to the full range of what they have on offer but of particular interest is their first payware route which is a new development of one of the original Rail Simulator routes - running from Bath Spa Green park station to Templecombe - part of the old Somerset & Dorset railway. This is a totally new route, not just a modification of the RS original.

The route page for the Somerset & Dorset provides a lot of information including some videos.

It is worth looking a the other offerings on the Route page though as there are some really good bits of modelling - some do require a lot of other payware and additional assets but GAD's freeware West of England Mainline is well worth it (again the page gives a good view of what is modeled). GAD seem to excel in getting depth to their modelling with the countryside extending far away from the railway track.

A few photos of the Somerset & Dorset...

Thanks. Some day I should go drive trains across the pond.

I was looking at their Somerset route, and I'm only missing one required DLC from Steam. The next Steam sale should take care of that.

It is well worth it Howard - it is quite inspirational how far the sim has come when you compare it to the original that was packed with Rail Simulator...
