Yeah, it would have been nice if RSC had let us know this was coming so 3rd party developers could have been ahead of the game. Another snub from RSC and single finger salute back at them.

I'm not doing a tutorial on it, but here is a quick guide to what I did to get my locos in...

- First, you need the PreLoad folder placed as a sub-folder in your Locomotive's main folder.
- Inside, you need a file called "YOURLOCOMOTIVEmetadata". Instead of going through the trouble of creating one from scratch, I assimilated the one from the Dash 9. It has adapted to serve my culture.
- Once you open the copied metadata file with RWTools, all the namings are pretty self explanatory. You simply change the data that points to each RSC locomotive .bin file to data that points to YOUR locomotive .bin file. Save and close it.
- Now you need a 256x128 image of your locomotive, placed within a folder called LocoInformation, placed within the Engine folder of each locomotive you wish to show up in the browser. This image should be a .PNG, and it should be named "image".
- To show information about your locomotive, you will need another folder inside the LocoInformation folder called "En".
- Inside the En folder, you have an html file called "Description" that contains the info about your locomotive.

Hi all,

Hack,
Just a couple of things, I have Seatle and Carlisle which does not show in the routes because its a third party route. Can a picture of this route be created and added to enable this route to show?
Secondly, can the same method be used to enable locomotives to show in the Collections window?

Kind regards
Mike.

By trial and error, I have established for Locomotives/Engines, it just needs a folder at the "bottom" of the tree (check out stock locos with the main program) - for instance it may be in Assets \ [Dev] \ RailVehicles \ Diesel \ [Loco Type] \ BR Blue (just as a for instance) or the last folder may be \ Default. Folder paths will vary between locos and developers. The new folder is named LocoInformation (presumably caps sensitive, but best to play safe anyway). In that folder, place the .png file (I take screen shots of the loco and then edit, optimize, and crop it Photoshop Elements). I'm not sure that they *must* be .png files (as opposed to .jpg), but all the stock locos seem to be so I stuck with that.

I forgot to mention in the last post, it seems the image file *must* be named specifically "image.png", NOT any attempt to name the actual asset.

Guys I have tried the step by step guide from Marc but am still unsuccessful. Could somebody please give a step by step guide as to how one should go about to add a thumbnail to the routes. I get confused whether one should add the PreLoad folder to the route or to the Asset and in the asset allocate the *!!thnx!!* Preload folder to the developer's folder. Should one use an .png file or ans ace file which was converted with the ace tool. Then Mike Simpson has also changed his RW Tools utility to make provision to add thumnails. Here he uses a.dds file format and all the pics have to be cropped to a size of 256x128. Does one have to use the Adobe Photoshop to be able to save the pic in the suggested format. Boy this is all so confusing. I have struggled on end for two days on end without success. Help me please somebody- I am desperate. I would sincerely wish to add the non default routes and payware stuff I bought to the library from which I can choose which route to play and see a beautiful thumbnail of the route.
Thanks Guys

Hello there,

I have been trying to get a route image in to my system for about a week now. I took the instructions written in this forum by Hack which seem to be clear, I created an Image 256X128 in BMP format and converted this to .ace format using the standard tool all OK. Set up the Blueprint and PreLoad folder for metadata as instructed set up paths and route Guid. Not to forget the filter options, save and export. Compiled and exported OK.

Go into Sim and my route screen shows "no texture present a black and yellow" On looking in my preload folder there is a TCPCDX file there. If I go to Mike Simpsons RW Tools I can display that file correctly on screen.

I set up my base files in my source folders as directed and these were transferred to assets on compilation.

It all sends me batty any ideas would be gratefully received

All the best

Have you tried clearing the blueprint cache?
