What would also be great is a utility that adds flypoints to the marker files or a marker file for when creating activities. Gets tedious all the back n forth jumping from engine where the activity conditions are placed to the place themselves.

Flypoints? I am too new to RS to know what this is, but I am sure that as I get into scenario creation it will become evident!

Flypoints is just my word to explain a temporary point it would be nice if we could input to jump back and forth from these points while making scenarios. See, when you add commands to a scenario, you place them on the player engine (which is stationary of course). But many times to tell that engine what to do, you have to move to that location to specify a pickup point, a delivery point, or whatever. That location could be miles away. The only way to get there if there isn't a marker present is to scroll and scroll and scroll, til you get there. Then when you're done picking the point, to issue the next command to the player, it's all the way back to the engine to place the command. And if that command is a pickup point, delivery point or whatever, it's scroll scroll scroll, all the way back. For my trackplan routes, because they are circular or folded over, it's not too bad. But in a long linear route, it could be something awful. Keep in mind you can use your markers to jump to these places and then scroll scroll scroll to wherever you need to lessening the amount of scrolling. All I'm saying is it be nice just to say place a "I am here" marker to either jump back to or create markers that can be appended to the marker file (on the fly) so your marker file is more tailored to the scenarios.

Rich, you don't have to do all that flying. I'm at work so am not at a PC with RS installed, but all you need to do is to put the 'stop at' (or whatever) instruction on your engine; click on the right-side flyout to create a new instruction; then RIGHT-CLICK anywhere else, then press 9. Hey presto, you're in the 2D map. Now left-click on the siding or platform or portal, and your instruction is complete with none of that flying up and down the line. I probably haven't explained it very well but experiment and you'll see what I mean.

Rich, Paul explained it much better than I did, but that was the same thing I was trying to suggest. No rootbeer for me then *!sad!* *!!wink!!*

The 64 thousand dollar question. The route does come first, purely for the reason we need somewhere to run our trains. Somewhere along the line *!rolleyes!* the two disciplines come together, followed by a third, the activity/scenario covering aspect. The end-user is at the end of the chain, so to speak. !*hp*!

I have been involved in a complex project where it wasn't possible to predict whether :-

1) An accurate depiction of the line which included 3 miles of 3rd rail incline, could be done,
2) would the physics of (MSTS) allow the successful running of trains and their unique locomotives under prototypical operations (yes it did).

The route was required first to test the physics of the locomotives, etc. In fact both were developed concurrently, by mutual agreement. !*cheers*!

It was a cooperative effort, which is how such routes are developed and delivered to the community. US and NZR narrow gauge operations are another case in point.

You need both the chicken and the egg, therefore the question is a case of Occam's razor.

I voted for the first proposition. **!!bow!!**

I want my eggs with bacon, biscuits and country gravy. !**duh*!! Oh, and some corn beef hash, please. !*brav*!

Since I can't seem to wrap my head around how to import a loco that I purchase into a given scenario, I usually buy the new stuff that incorporates rolling stock with at least a few scenarios. Rich Garber, Pam Brooker and Lonewolfdon among many others have created fantastic routes with great scenarios to keep me busy. This is now my fave sim. No more Flight SimX. !*salute*!
