CSX SW1500

Unread postby styckx » Wed Jun 30, 2010 9:33 pm

I haven't repainted a U.S. loco in ages. Decided to start back up where I left off.. The SW1500. Following Pikers lead in the CSX livery.

This is a very early WIP. Basic concept mock up I've thrown together in an hour using the base/fonts stolen from my Juniata repaint to get a very basic perspective of how it's going to look. I'm pleased, thus sharing.

Obviously a load to do yet, so much stuff I didn't even paint yet. For those who don't know me, this will end up being a running commentary of the progression of the repaint. Feel free to give ANY feedback, positive or negative. I can't correct screw ups unless I'm told about them. :)

I have no idea what Ed has set as a max size for screen shots so here is a thumbnail link until I find out.

I have the max width set at 800, but anything larger will be shown as a click-able thumbnail, the thumbnail being sized at 800 wide.
Linked images larger than 800 will have the right side chopped off so it's best to attach images directly to a post to get the thumbnail image. Linked images won't produce a thumbnail so they should be no larger than 800 wide.

I do appreciate you using Photobucket though. I don't care for ImageShack as every imageShack image tries to put a cookie on the viewers hard drive. !!*ok*!!

Good job on the switcher. !*salute*!

Gotcha on the file size! Yeah, I've been paying for a Photobucket Pro account for a few years now, worth every dime. I tried image shack a few times and it's no where near as organized and professional as Photobucket!

Thanks for the compliments and thanks for having me after my bull in a china shop start a year ago. *!lol!*

Well, Sty, it's about time you made it here. Big difference from that "other Forum" isn't it? !!*ok*!!

I tend to link all my screen shots to my Photobucket account. I have my own PC Tech Support website, and if I hosted pics there, I would run out of disk space on the server real fast.

Anyways, nice looking repaint so far, I know it's a work in progress. You can't find a better group of folks that the train junkies that hang out here. **!!bow!!**

Where is the base model you are using for the 1500?

CSX is my favorite color scheme since it really looks good in its "natural" condition.

Bill
Juniata is a gem...and looking at your WIP of CSX livery we will have another jewel in the crown. Do hope we see more of your work over this way. As for feed back, that's one thing you will get....good, honest constructive criticism and / or wraps from a great bunch of folks.
Nice work.. !!*ok*!!

Gordon.

Base model? Not sure what you mean. The Project Platform route comes with the SW1500. It has no cab, but that doesn't bother me much.

I'm basing this repaint off this picture: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 096&nseq=2

I'm a sucker for the worn and sun faded paint.

haha hockey stick! It does sort of look like that right now doesn't it? Yeah tackling that blue at the back of the body with the correct angle and width is on tap for tonight along with matching the vents paint up with that. For being a rush job, this locomotive is surprisingly well unwrapped. Textures are a pleasure to work with.

Ahh the lovely art of repaints. Two steps forward, two steps back.

Got the angle and width of the blue stripe at the back 1/2 of the body I wanted. painted vents to match accordingly. Started the yellow on the cab and the oh so common nagging things about repainting reared their ugly head. *!lol!* Got to tweak my weathering textures as you can blatantly see now where one section of a texture ends, and a new one is used and....CAB NUMBER FONTS.. Argh! This just became a static number repaint by about 2 virtual inches. **!!bang!!** Maybe.. I might get away with editing the font textures and realigning them towards the top of the texture. Which is still a !*not-ok*! Anyone who has ever replaced fonts before knows they are about as much fun doing as watching someone scratch their nails across a chalkboard.

Doing some work. Finally some days off!

Base redone a little. Going with a rusty unkempt look. :) little knicks and knacks done with the rest. Depending on motivation I might finish this in the next two days.

Getting close to completion. Tons of stuff done and currently working on adding door lines, hinges and latches to the body to give this thing some more depth.

She's coming along great there Bill...the cab fonts I see you got sorted and when the edging is done on the doors, hinges...etc, the depth will show... !!*ok*!!
The only comment I have on this superb repaint is the rear logo...appears to me to be bunched up and a tad high. The original is partly on both rear side panels and across the door I believe.
Otherwise...another great work of yours, nicely done.... !*brav*!
