Well, redid the right side rings, now to do the left side and the back. This one now though is shorter to how it should be.

If we work at it we can bring back the 30's and the 60's to Railworks.

Will be able to do some more work on this tomorrow. Maybe by then I might have another progress picture.
If we work at it we can bring back the 30's and the 60's to Railworks.

The forward and rear facing windows are too square (see my previous posting with a front on shot). I think if you narrow and then lengthen them by an inch or two it should look better.

I'll see what I can do, however though the windows are a little harder to edit then the ladder, but I'm sure I can get them to edit right.

Once I get the locomotive up and running in the game I'll release a free beta of it at my website.
If we work at it we can bring back the 30's and the 60's to Railworks.

Once I get the train into 3D Crafter I'm going to attempt to make a mold from the original then shape out a entirely new train just in Crafter using a Crafter block. If I'm successful it should slash down the poly level drastically.
If we work at it we can bring back the 30's and the 60's to Railworks.

How does the front window look now.

.....Well, bad news, the molding operation won't work in Crafter for this engine so I'll have to reduce the poly level the hard way. At the moment working on the truck to lower it down from 10000 poly.

The window looks much better. The overall porportion to the door is still a bit off, however you would need to compare it to the original picture to notice.

Honestly though, how much rivet counting is too far? Being that this is your first engine I think you are doing great!

Tried with the truck, didn't work. I'll try again with the locomotive though.

you're going to have to apply better techniques in sketchup if yo uwant better results down the road. your circles can not have 24 segments as i see there. thats is too much. go plugin shopping online for free sketchup plugins that allow you to enter in the amount of segment for your shapes like cylinders, pipes, etc... each can have their segment values adjusted so there not as smooth, but acceptable. you're still going to find that the next program will break your faces into traingles thus increasing face count. but you can really minimze this by paying close attention to details in sketchup before you export. I am redoing the c40-8 so that it can be used in high count tiles. I was able to reduce the model by 40K just by maniulating faces and chosing pipes and cylinders with 8 segments instead of 24. better start now or your headaches are going to begin.
