I hope this is the correct location for such stuff... !*don-know!*
Anyway, styckx got me going when he posted a little tutorial on repainting tips and then his follow up of the BNSF & NS sd70's.....Thanks Bill's, looks like I may enjoy doing this. You should post more tips and tutorials...tops, mate !!*ok*!!
Well I thought I would give it a go and being my first real repaint in RW....here are my attempts. The NS is about 85% and the CSX has a long way to go for this newbie at this repainting thing.
If others are repainting the SD70ACe as well...post your shots here so we all can have a gander at your WIP..... !*brav*!

Hmmm!!!...trying to link thumbnails...will get it right soon !**duh*!!... I can't seem to get the same link effect that styckx does, it goes into my album instead of the bigger image..oh well!!

Here's the way styckx does it.

Code: Select all

[img]http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g37/styckx/More%20junk/th_2d6f548f.jpg[/img]

Note the url at the beginning and end and the img tags around just the thumbnail.

Dude, awesome job, that NS unit looks better than my own.. And the CSX unit is looking good also. You seem to be a natural, I'm insanely jealous of that frame and bogie work on the NS unit..

Just ask questions. I'll answer any..

As for questions.....be assured, I may ask a pointer or two..

Looking good! I wish I had talent like some of you. Best I can do is admire it all. !*brav*!

No talent here Wolf....just trial, many errors and lots of broke things. Thanks... :D
@Hawk....you gotta get your Railworks working man, you are missing out on a lot of fun..

Just a little update....took me 6 color tries for the nose...this one is staying on. Bogies, belly tank and underframe base colors done.
The nose emblem looks weird on the "S"...the loco nose is too pointy and pulls the sides in...and I ain't stretching it to fit. Fiddling with the rear at the moment...will have to tamper with my template to get it right.

I really don't have the time nor the money to mess with RailWorks. Besides, I never was a user with MSTS or RailWorks. I just liked developing and I've pretty much lost interest in building any models.

Hey Qrfan. Was just writing up a post on UKTS and reminded myself of something.

I never released/finished that GWB SD70Ace 4141 unit and have pretty much written it off because I hated the way the nose made the union pacific logo look. Coincidently same nose issue you ran into. Where as you seem to not let it bother you, I'm an idiot and let minor details like that kill my motivation. I've seriously written it off over the nose logo.. I'm just that bad.

Anywho. The art program you are using.. Can it read PSD files? If so, and if you are interested I will clean up and label the layers for 4141 in a way you can understand what is what and give them to you to either attempt to finish and release under your name (I don't want anything to do with them) or just for a general reference to help with your learning/understanding of repainting.

Let me know and I'll work on getting them to ya.

Bill
For starters, thanks ever so kindly for the offer :D ..... the "Bushy" is yours and it would be so even if I did play with it. To be honest, it got the better of me and like you, been tearing my grey thinning hair out trying to get the nose right on the CSX. No matter which, what or how....it just doesn't come together. To be honest the default is not a good template to use for the CSX as the rear also has a problem with the block at the top......so no rear CSX number above the light and logo beneath. The door handle only has one in the textures, so which color do you adapt to blend in with the blue or gold?..same goes for the Heritage.
Luckily the railing posts, rails and the grabs work in okay as does some other fittings.
I was thinking of going with the Heritage to get the rear logo in place but the model don't suit the road number because of the filler caps...so I'm in two minds at the moment.. !*don-know!*..as to which way to go now.

As for art program...I was thinking about purchasing Photoshop CS5....wwhoaa!!...the dollar cost locked the brakes on that idea. I have the aging PSP7 Anniversary Addition I dug out of my archives and fired it up..it does a reasonable job and it does read PSD files.
My feeling is you should get the "Bushy" done to the best of your ability with what is available to do so and box it.....that will be my end result... *!!wink!!*

Cheers,
Gordon.
