My Route

Unread postby Unlimited » Sat Jun 11, 2011 10:08 pm

Hi, I are restarting my route. And I was wondering how I should start. I tried following the railworks wiki one about it, but I got confused. I want the lon and lat on it but I don't know how to create the route folder and how to get it to load up ingame. I've tried following it a few times, so far no luck.

I recall going through that pain as well. Here is my plea for help some time back. Note the line to eutrainsim.

Hope that helps some.

That helped some.

One thing, how can I add a custom loading screen? I looked in the blueprints editor and I didn't see any place to put it. And don't know how to get .ace format.

Didn't find it. What's it labeled?

Also, did I not do something right, in my route, I just got blue terrain not grass or anything

Thanks, but in the route blueprint, there is no place for Ghost entry to place the loading screen image at.

When I started my route, I simply followed the procedures/instructions in RWTools for creating a new route, the route template, etc. Everything worked fine.

I was about to post the same thing. RWTools and the extensive help text will get you through the initial route setup stuff. There are several preliminary steps and some concepts that must be taken and understood before getting too far along or you'll end up starting over. It's worth the time to do a little reading first. I don't have links handy but there are a few tutorials on starting a route around. No one tut covers everything, but once you peruse them all, the pieces all begin to make sense and fit together. I think there are some vids at youTube, too. Someday someone might have the time to write a book on the topic; it's a big one with lots of steps and choices to make. I tried to write a tut; it got to be a monster; the quick gist:

Create a developer folder structure
Create a route template
Create/copy terrain texturing bin
Create/copy track rules
Edit files to customize
Create route

And for a real terrain route:

Acquire, convert, and load terrain
Create route markers or decals
Convert and load markers file

RWtools will help you insert a loading screen, though that's less important than things like terrain textures.

Finally, start laying track.

Enjoy!
!*cheers*!

Yes, it would be nice if someone were to compile all of the tid-bits of info about starting on a route into one place.
Now that I have RW up and running, I'm contemplating starting a route.

Good point, Chris, but the problem now is that the info to BEGIN a route is already in pieces... a tidbit here, a tidbit there... there's no one comprehensive manual on "Starting a route" that covers all the options, in/outs, etc. that one needs to know to get one started correctly. When I started one I was quickly up to 18 pages of draft when I gave up. The closest comprehensive writing I found was the RWTools help and because of changes to RW and other new tools some of it needs updated and expanded now.

I wished I had more money, I don't have RW_Tools yet but I want to get it sometime. But can someone please tell me how to get terrain into my route?

Also, I tried loading up my blueprints for the route, and now the blueprint editor isn't working.

It just gives me this message: Image

It shows up on the task bar, but the program never loads up so I can work with it.. It was working fine before, I closed it and went to bed, and tried opening when i woke up, it gave me this.
