I'm still not getting the "relay" part. *!question!*

But if it's Multiplayer, then I'm all for it.

I beleive I read " so you can continue a scenario with your friends" as if they join you after it is already in progress??

What I think it means is 1 person starts the scenario then saves it and sends this save file to the next person to continue it. It would be as easy as saving the scenario and then going in to the scenario folder and sending someone with the same scenario installed and when they load the game they just hit continue and there you go a relay.

Maybe someone could test this theory.

I have also read "Players around the world will also be able combine efforts to complete scenarios via Relay Play". Combine efforts... not in real online time, eh? *!rolleyes!* sounding essential data's exchange (relay) at certain moments, like meetings? or at a saved point? nah let it be... it's coming soon... *!!wink!!*

Eh Bob!? then it means that we both have been playing multiplayer since a long time, huh? !*roll-laugh*! If two (or more) are playing is multiplayer, or not? Well, at least now will be easier and fast through a modern GUI, eh? !!jabber!!

Cheers,
Doc.

"The actual mechanics of adding a multiplayer element to Train Simulator is not the issue but rather the rule system is the real challenge. No one wants to be doing a 100 mile long run and spending hours playing online only to be stopped by a derailed locomotive controlled by another player " ; RSC Fan Friday excerpt in response to bringing multiplayer capability to RW. I would say that Relay Mode is the first step in developing multiplayer. Relay meaning one player at a time, thus eliminating the possibility of the "bottle neck" they refer to in the quote. I would expect the rule system to evolve with future releases of RW, eventually with a true multiplayer mode, but not happening in the 2013 version. **!!2cents!!**

Not exactly, the career scenario is in your machine (not in a server anywhere), game is just retaining data and relaying it to the Steam Cloud database (from time to time and at the end of scenario, this is why you need to be connected online to Steam). That's like any other Steam Game saying you got an achievement, just when you hit it...

So I guess the question is, are we getting a "true" Multiplayer or some cheap knock off?

I'll explain it. It's been explained already pretty well but here: Relay play is like a passable save game. Say I am assigned to switch out a train in a yard for a incoming crew, i do it, friend connects after im done, does his mainline run after hooking his power to the train I just built or what ever. Pretty much like that. The reason we don't have real time multiplayer yet is unknown to me so far. I'd love to see it though. :( Perhaps now with Steam Workshop, it'll be easier to do a live multiplayer having steam download all (free) trains in the session to your PC automatically.

As fcrail said, not for now. If was to be a true MP they would stated that clearly, eh? *!twisted!*

I know what you mean shortliner. But trust me. The team is probably working on something like what we dream of. They don't keep me in the loop though.
