Considering how ugly the SD70ACe is (I am talking about the real locomotive here, not the model!) that's is pretty darn good-looking stuff.

Hi all,

Another quick update to say the model is now complete(?) assuming all feedback is good...

Next stage onto the UV-unwrapping. That's gonna hurt.

I guess I'm weird, but that is one handsome locomotive. very nice work, Gray! Can't wait to add this loco to Rich Garber's routes and the RW San Berdo to Barstow (just to test it out, there will be more routes I will add this to)

I would think this loco would be prototypical on most modern-day US routes?

It's like looking at brass HO locos of old. Incredible detail! - Rich

What has happened with the nose-headlight-version? In my opinion the rear isn't accurate, but everything else is fine.

The only problems I see are:

1.) The grille should be see through. (sort of like a class 60)

2.) The area above the grille with the three panels should be perforated sheet metal.

other than that it looks simply amazing.

I just got done looking at a bunch of pictures. What do you think is wrong with the rear end? It looks fine to me.

Wrap it up, i'll take it!

Just out of curiosity, modeler-to-modeler here, how many polygons are in this model?

Regarding the rear of the loco looking incorrect. Could you give more information on this please. I'd like to know if specific areas need correcting. Thanks :)

Yes I agree. I didn't help matters by rendering the grill as solid material in previous images. Once this is textured in-game, this grill will have alpha material applied to it so that you can see through it. I've also added those missing perforations on the upper panel above the grill. Well spotted :)

Hopefully this is getting closer...

The UP editions have a small horn(not signalhorn) right above the upper rearlights. I think this is a difference to the BNSF versions.

Really great how you include the community!

Ah, OK I see what you are saying :) Thanks for the speedy reply.
The shape of the units featured in the upcoming SD70ACe DLC pack will be based on the body shape adopted by this UP unit (without the horn) e.g. UP 1995 Chicago and NorthWestern heritage.

It's always great to have this kind of feedback. Many thanks once again.

I noticed that not all versions have this horn, so I'll have to live with it. :D It's ok!
But what we really need is if there'll be BNSF versions they should have the Headlights on the nose and not on the roof as the UP have.

Hi guys and gals,

After posting a reply to 'micaelcorleone' about variations in UP heritage units (thanks 'micaelcorleone'), it got me thinking. The original plan was to provide two units based on these two UP beasts:

and

Image

Here's a question for you...

Q. If you could choose, which two UP liveries would you prefer (or think would be most popular) to be featured in the DLC pack ?

Art speak now : As far as geometry changes go, the main difference I can see across all UP heritage liveries is in fact the rear of the units. Some have twin refill ducts and no rear horn box on the rear, and some no ducts and a horn box above the rear lights. Correct me if I'm wrong here :D

If anyone has any preference or suggestions, now would be a good time to put ideas forward as the unit is still in the early stages.

Thanks again. This is awesome.

Time for a nice sit-down and a cucumber sandwich :D
