Adjustments for the Acela Express and NEC

Unread postby MrMurphy » Sun Oct 16, 2011 4:26 am

I've made several changes to Acela Express & NEC to get more realistic driving experience. As result of that I even started to like this route and Acela trainset.

1. Cabsway effect for fast track is not realistic by default in NEC. Open track rules file for NEC (location: Assets/RSC/NorthEastCorridor/RailNetwork/TrackRules/NEC TrackRule.bin) and change LineUnevenness value from 50 to 15. Now it's looking more like fast train rolling on fast track and not like boat jumping on stormy ocean.

2. Changed some of cabview parameters for Acela as following (File location: Assets/RSC/AcelaPack01/RailVehicles/Electric/Acela/Default/CabView/Acela_Cab_camera.bin):

cameraOffset X to 0.605
cameraOffset Z to 7.565
windowCameraOffset X to -0.685
windowCameraOffset Z to 7.565
Drivers and conductors view have exact positions now.

verticalDirectionalFreedom set to 0.42
The vertical viewing angle is limited now to avoid situation driver can notice he doesn't have legs.

horizontalDirectionalFreedom set to 1.25
Enhances bit a drivers horisontal viewing angle.

DampingYCoefficient to 0.08
Reduces drivers body reaction on Y axis.

ampingZCoefficient to 0.07
Reduces drivers body shaking forward and backwards.

Another step was very important to make Acela trainset's acceleration more realistic in AI mode:
Warning: Do it only in case You do not want to play default scenarios anymore because of the changed physics parameters for Acela.
Open Acelas simulation blueprint (Location: Assets/RSC/AcelaPack01/RailVehicles/Electric/Acela/Default/Simulation/AcelaPowerCarSimulation.bin). Find the parameters called MaxPower and MaxForce. Change MaxPower value to 4600. This parameter do not affect simulation. Acelas power car produces max. 4600 kW, not 6000 (as set by default). Now more important step - change MaxForce value from 300 to 27.4. This is the only parameter which affects trains (locos) acceleration in AI mode. The same time it will not affect anyhow PLAYER trains performace because simulation files like TractiveEffortVsThrottle and TractiveEffortVsSpeed are doing the job instead.

Do not forget to make copies of original files before You make changes and don't forget to delete Blueprints.pak files for NEC and Acela Express after changes made.

Try it and feel the difference.

What program did you use to edit the .bin file?

.bin files are most easily opened and modified with RWTools.
You can also convert them to .xml files using serz.exe in the railworks folder, then editing them as text files, then concerting them again to .bin using serz.exe.
