Virginia & Truckee Railroad

Unread postby dleeboy » Fri Sep 18, 2015 3:09 pm

Here is a new video and an older one of my latest route I am working on. The route is based on the scenic Railroad in Virginia City Nevada. Most of it is accurate with just a little artistic touch to it. The length of the route will be around 14 miles, or longer if I choose to do that.

Thanks I made another one tonight. It takes a long time to upload it on YouTube. It is late for me so I think I will wait until the morning to upload it.

You've captured the feel very nicely. Those sagebrush hills look quite realistic. Nice work. I'll look forward to running this route, and the Connie is a natural for it.

Here are two videos one of the real route at Gold Hill and the other one of my route version. I am trying to make it as close to the real thing as I have the ability to do it. I also put in a false tunnel entrance at the old tunnel after I made the video here are two screen shots. I think it looks better.

Thanks it is standard gauge track. The scenic Virginia and Truckee Rilroad uses two Consolidation Steam Engines number 18 and 29. Going up Gold Hill is a tight radius so larger Steam Engines won't work I tried. Train Simulators Lima Consolidation works great but going up Gold Hill is a 3 percent grade so i need to use a desil engine on the back. The real route does not but in TS16 you do. I use Google Earth overlay to place the track so it is accurate.

Very nicely done! The scenery looks amazing! Which ground texture set are you using?

Soldiers Summit it has great desert scenery for painting. Thank you for your comments. The only downside of the route are the grades when using Steam Locomotives. I would like to use just the steam engines and there passenger cars. But because i am using the grades that are on the real route i need to use a helper engine to get up the grades. If anyone knows hows to increase the power to the IHH Consolidation this would help. Also any of the short wheel Britkits steam engines. I have already talk to the creator of the lima consolidation and he said it is already at where it should be. Any help would be appreciated.

Alternatively, you could reduce the mass of the cars slightly to help the engine get them up the grade easier.
