UP AC6000

Unread postby ArcticCatZRT » Sun May 24, 2015 11:56 am

I was wondering if anyone was working on or atleast thinking of making this repaint for the CSX AC6000. Personally, I love the locomotive and its quality in the game for features and would like some more versatility of it. I found some examples of both the older livery for UP and the new one. I think the new livery looks quite sharp but also like plane industrial look of the old livery.

Granted I know that the CSX and UP versions have different style trucks.

Haven't looked into the locomotive itself yet to see how hard it would be to reskin, hopefully it isn't a nightmare.

I'd greatly appreciate it if someone would look into this, granted I may start toying around myself to see what I can do.

Yes I have one partly done. The problem was that the CSX on the side is a decal and if you try to fit the UP on there is comes out too small. However while working on another job I have the idea of making a image and putting what fits on the decal and then the rest of it on the body. I haven't had time to fiddle with it however. I thought it would be such a natural for DTG to do it since they obviously have the license with UP and would be easy for them to do however they do work in mysterious ways.

I am honestly surprised DTG has done anything more with this locomotive on the marketplace, or for that matter any thing on the marketplace. Seems like there was a big push for it and then all of a sudden it died.

Welp, anyway. Buzz, you solution may be the ticket, probably will be a pain though to make everything line up. I do have the tools and basic knowledge, I think I may just try my hand at doing a grey ghost or primered AC6000. That way I can run it on any line. Might also look at doing a lease job even if it won't be prototypical, might as well have some fun (oops, unprototypical... might cause a stir in these parts !*roll-laugh*! )

After all of the GP38-2 and F7 re-paints I have done getting things to match up while fiddly is mainly just an act of patience and occasionally a little snort of some adult beverage.

What I find interesting it is rare for DTG to make Marketplace DLC. Many 3rd party developers have made some and DTG's most recent marketplace item is a British train.

Will this support Fan Railers physics?

I don't know why not, it's just a re-skin.

That’s doable Buzz, I tried that but matching the textures and position on both sides is the issue…close enough is good enough I guess.

The way I see it, unless DTG changes some texture mapping for this model that’s the reason for them not doing so. Those doors that the decals appear on are one texture mapped to both sides and not only just that but are mapped at different heights so striping for your loco that is equal on both sides becomes a problem if you have multiple stripes.
I gave up and put this loco ( along with the other 4 I have tried now ) as impossible to repaint correctly and another attempt by DTG to make repaints harder and impossible to do.

I just had a thought on this. This would not be entirely prototypical but I could put the flag on the unit instead of the name. It would fit nicely.

Would it be possible to change the trucks?

No.

If DTG puts out a Marketplace Union Pacific AC6000CW, then they would be able to add the Hi-Ad trucks prototypical to the UP units and convertibles and CSX 602, "Spirit of Maryland".

Couldn't we do that ourselves?Like how the people who made the C36-7,which is an SD40-2 in the cab, change how a certain part of that model comes out?

Same scenario, just on the AC6000CW,right? Or is it different? !**conf**!

I think you need to get your meds adjusted slightly.
