Skip TS2014 Video at startup

If you want to 'dump' the startup video then do this:

1 Navigate to Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\data\videos
2 create a notepad file named 2013_startup.txt
3 rename 2013_startup.ogv to something like 2013_startupold.ogv
4 now rename the text file you created to 2013_startup.ogv

you will now have a 0k .ogv file that skips instead of playing.

Unfortunately, the txt file method rename didn't work. Railworks refused to boot up and called a Runtime error. Looks like the escape key method for me.

Someone over at Steam had the same problem and it turned out they didn't have their file system set up to show the extension in the file name.

You might need to follow the file path to the video folder and then click "Organize"
Then select "File and Search Options"
Then click "view"
Under the advanced list uncheck the box for "Hide Extensions for Known File Types".

That will make it so a person can edit the file extension as part of the name.

I dont understand why pressing esc is that hard to do? I appreciate the work around but seriously it doesnt get any easier than pressing esc like every other game that has this thing.

I agree, eyein12, and there won't be any "fix" that has to be redone after every cache verify, not even with a "quick and easy" batch file.

What I wonder about is this: while that video plays, what's happening in the background? Does the video introduction cover up any essential set-up processes? Has anyone bother to investigate this?

the video is called in a sequence ordained by RSC right before the game goes through its actual start up process, even tho there was a splash screen prior to the video. its not covering anything up in the background because its the only process running during that time. pressing the esc button only kills the vid. The next splash screen however is when the game loads up vital processes and verifies your version, scenarios etc..

So, try turning your speakers down -- or even off -- before launching the sim. In Windows 7, there's a little speaker icon in the lower-right area of the screen that controls volume and has a one-click Mute button. My keyboard also has a handy Mute button, as well as volume control buttons. There's more than one way to silence noise.

It's not hard to do but you have to do it every time you start the game, I don't, I am happy with that and decided to share the workaround with others. Use it if you want but I don't understand your need to question its use or sharing of the knowledge by others.

As for the need to apply after every verification, well, how often do you do a file verification? I have found TS2013 onwards to be very stable and I don't think I did a single file verification on TS2013, I expect the same from TS2014. That means I now have no intro video, which isn't that good or informative and also do not have the 'hints/tips' video showing at all, and they were certainly no use to me.

I have two custom screen shots in their place and they look better. The load time is probably not changed, well maybe it is as sometimes I am 'too busy' to press that escape key and the video runs anyway. That is not an issue for me, I just don't want to watch the same video over and over and I found a way to change it out for a nice screenshot instead.
