i7 and i5 owners take note!

Unread postby arizonachris » Wed May 02, 2012 3:49 pm

Win 7 is doing something called "core parking" and not utilizing all the cores on your CPU like it should. The fix is here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1250666/winf ... g-our-cpus

(thanks to my friend Greybear for posting this on my tech support site)

Thanks Chris, good tip. Should be useful for FSX, probably not RW but we can always hope.

On the link you cited it had the following instruction:

Step 1: Go into Task Manager/Resource Monitor and see if any cores are parked, If so then go to step 2.

How do you tell if any of the cores are "parked", what am I looking for?

Resource Monitor: just search for it in the start menu, and go to the CPU tab. At the right should be graphs of all the cores (virtual or otherwise), and if a core is parked it will say so.

Turning off parking works for any CPU with more than 2 physical cores IIRC.
