TheCanadianRail's Repaints

Unread postby thecanadianrail » Sun Mar 10, 2013 5:15 pm

So I've gotten into repainting as many of you would have noticed by now, and I've decided to do a few simple repaints and MAYBE take a request or two...please don't go overboard on any requests and make em simple as im still starting out if you have any...well you guys know the drill lol

So the first one I will be releasing is a repaint of the default 100t coal gondola into CN...although not 100% prototypical and far from accurate due to how they have this car to be repainted it will do imho (haven't gotten the auto numbering to work):

and the next repaint I will be doing for a release is a repaint of GN's 100t coal hopper into GACX (GATX):

Well here is the GATX hopper, its fairly good although I think I need to brighten up the rotary end marker and move the reporting marks lower?

Looking good. Though, the font is wrong on the GATX hopper. A simple google image search brings many results, plus there's a font including the GATX logo at RailSimStuff.

Google: https://www.google.ca/search?rlz=1C2CHMO_en-GBCA469CA469&hl=en&safe=off&q=GATX%20logo&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=w1o9Ud_gINTxqAGyiIGAAw&biw=1680&bih=925&sei=xlo9UcarC8m1rQH094C4Cg

hmmm, after looking through it, it seems the GATX font I was looking for just won't work as it was made for the tank cars and not to have ribs between the letters like the hopper does, although I think I can freehand it as close as possible since its all straight lines. in the mean time I am going to make an ICG 3 bay covered hopper.

Try amarillo_usaf . I used that font for my GATX SD40s.

progress report on the ICG covered hopper:

this is what I have so far, its looking ok but still has lots of room for improvement. it dosent seem to be orange enough and I cant find where the bottom doors are located so I can paint them black.....and the lack of weathering makes it look odd? im willing to take any suggestions!

Try these:

http://qbrushes.net/grunge/grunge-rusty ... p-brushes/

Just remember put on at least three layers, and make them light so the effect builds on itself.

I can't remember where I gt it form but it was one of the free font sites. Try dafonts.com?

As for weathering, take your time and build up with layers using a light opacity brush. Learn to use masks to take away and add to your layers. Remember a little goes a long way.

Try here:

I am trying to remember who you need to give attribution to when you use these fonts.... (I hope MadMike see this he would know).
