That would be awesome.
Just out of curiousity, how fast can the game engine cope with? i've only ever done 140mph tops before, maybe faster on the test track.

I've ridden the Maglev in Shanghai. Pretty smooth.

I am not sure if this will be fun to drive though. The tracks are fairly permanent, with no crossovers. Just there and back again.

It will be pretty fast though and with eases of derailment at 0.00 I think it would be a pretty neat ride zipping past everything so fast !!*ok*!!

I've done 5500mph before I ran out of straight track, Maglev speeds are fine in the game engine, although loading stutter might be fun to deal with. Stopping the train without the collision boxes overlapping is the tricky part.

Here's what I threw online for the last persistent questioner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRiq7-6l6V8 . Make sure it's in 720p so you can see the numbers...

Chance of derailment 0 just puts the CoG at the object's pivot, doesn't stop it derailing.

That...is....awesome....! I will be doing a lot of testing to see just what i can get away with, it will most likely be mostly straight and only very slight turns when their have to be turns. Would you be interested in helping with this project since you have prior knowledge with high speed stuff?

Come back to me when it's in game and I'll see if I can squeeze it in then :) Transrapid does 350mph or so? should be able to make some sort of turns at that speed.

More progress, got the texture map done, just have to apply it later today and it will be ready for export. Thought this would be a simple train to do since it wont need to have any animations and so on since this is my first REAL locomotive build !**duh*!!

IIRC, Maglev uses extreme superelevation on the curves. The cant looks way cool. Other than that, most lines are just shuttling to and fro.
You have to build all the track/throughs.

Nevertheless, creating all these smooth curves and curving planes on your model should give you a good excercise in 3D modeling. Quite something different from the boxy Diesels.

Another good exercise in modeling would be the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn, the worlds one and only true monorail.
