Trucks are 90% done. just a few more details to hash out on them. I will get the railings onm ditch lights still, and finally the doors and panel hinges to complete the model. almost there. its gauged correctly and i see why the wheels looked narrow because the trucks make up the rest of the space. thank god for those pics to i can understand how to place them. thanks again.

While it's still in the software being modeled, could you make a marker light version?

You could also make a Wide cab of this..since you already have the core model. But i dont know if you would want to do that or not.

So heres just about finished. Just the horn is left to make. This variant has the ditch lights on deck(NS), rather than under it(UP,CSX,CR). I will supply an under deck version as well. plus the next variants will not have a break in the front rim of the deck(only NS has it). instead it will be a constant rounded edge. It looks like there are no railing bars but the faces are reversed, Thus become transparent(i since fixed that in sketchup and all is well now so no worries).

All thats left for me here is the horn, the cab exterior view(and interior view eesh) and a few details over the gas tank and trucks still. Once i get this to the point where its ready to be edited for gameplay I will make the other variants. and the B40-8. my total model vert count is 76,845 and face count is 157,883 what is the limit? i will be adjusting it to have child object grouping in 3ds anyway so I wont have any issues anyway. my King st station had 500,000 faces.

I will update next week on progress as it is thanksgiving. happy holidays

What kind of horn are you planning on putting on it? Looking nice by the way.

Looking great. I have just a few suggestions:

1. Your nose shape needs revision. The angled sections should be far less drastic, while the hood should slope gradually away from the center.
2. The width dimensions of your trucks are a little off (narrow.) The outside edge of the brake cylinders should be roughly flush with the edge of the locomotive, while the brake rigging and shoes should be aligned exactly with the wheels. I have some pretty good drawings for you that show these dimensions. I'll send those over to as soon as I get home (Tuesday.)
3. Your windows are pretty large compared to the prototype. Reference photos would help out here- you might even find one that could be used as a backdrop image.

Other than that, though, this is looking great! Are you using 3dsmax to do your modeling, or modeling in SU and exporting?

Cheers,
Giuseppe

Hi g,

thanks for the input. this should help tighten the model up.

1. Can you explain about the hood. the vertical angle section? or the top angled section? and angled away from center in which direction out to the sides? or toward the front. the drawings i went off of didnt show this from the side.

2. The trucks were difficult cause there was no good pic that should what the depth should be. lots of pics showing what they look like. I will make them wider and flush.

3. I thought the front windows were a bit large. the front too should be smaller up and down. but that leaves more space between the top of those windows and the upper light bar.

SU to model and max to edit.
