Hey, Kevin, about your Dash-9 repaints, how do you make them look so good like that? And on a random note, I was looking at trainsim.com searching BNSf and I saw some Dash-9 repaints for MSTS that looked exactly like the ones you made for railworks (well, one was Santa fe., the other was a BNSF). They wern't made by you bud did you somehow convert the skins or something? Is that even possible? Really I'm just wondering if the repaints you made in ny way involved doing something the those MSTS models.

Oh, that seems hard... I wonder if there is a way to make a msts repaint into a railworks one, there's a good ES44AC repaint for msts I downloaded to see what it was like. MSTS is confusing...

you're right, but there's a way!!! !*YAAA*! I figured it out just a few minutes ago. You just need to download this convertor: Link removed by Hawk
and your repaint you wish to convert from msts to RW. Now install the tgatool and open it. Select on the top left corner File/Load and change the format from Targa image to Ace image. Don't forget to extract your the downloaded repaint, otherwise the tool won't find the ace files. The image should display now and you can export it as a bmp file.

This sounds a lot like the s file converter that was so rabidly discouraged, and rightfully so too. In essence that tool would allow a person to steal another persons graphics work and call it their own.

Interestingly enough, if you go to, what Softpedia says is, the developers site, that tool seems to not be found (at least I couldn't find it). Could it be due to the fact that they received complaints about it for the reason I stated above? I don't know, but I've removed the link in Kevin's post for the time being.

If anyone can give me a reason that this tool is not a theft device, I'll add the link back in.

So if anyone did get the tool and uses it, make absolutely certain that before you share anything made with images you find in MSTS that you a) get permission from the original MSTS creator and b) clearly credit that person in your docs.

Simple common sense and courtesy.

Me, I'm waaaaay too stupid to do anything like creating structures or reskins. I can barely fumble my way through simple scenario creation. I'm making a real hash of trying to create a route.

That's why I love stuff like Kevin's new Marias Pass...

Agreed! However, those two concerns are very rare these days, if not near extinction.

More's the pity. If it were more prevalent there would be a) a nice bridgehead between MSTS and RW and b) some gorgeous work done for MSTS that could be ported to RW, saving a lot of time and effort.

Alas, no, so great content creators like Kevin have to build it all from scratch. *!sad!*

BTW Hawk I loved all the stuff you did for MSTS too. !!*ok*!!

You must have been a big Sea View fan. That's where a lot of my work went, along with some to Rich Garber for a couple of his routes.

Seaview is one of the reasons MSTS was still installed (until my upgrade to Win 7-64 yesterday, don't know if it will still run now).

Also Mersey & Thames, the NYC subways, Chicago Great Western and Monon. And some payware routes.

And now I've hijacked Kevin's Marias Pass thread for too long and will retreat back into the shadows of lurkerdom, at least in this thread. !!**sorry**!!

I would say that it would be possible for that to be a good stealing tool, for somone who would want to do that. !*not-ok*! Some people would claim it their own, but you can never know, if somone is doing it justly, they would ask the creator if they could upload it for a different game and would give credit to that person !!*ok*!! , if they did upload it, but for personal game, that's a different story. Badcily it depends on the user, there are people oput there who don't care and there are some that do care. Really I just !*don-know!* .

This is nothing against you at all Kevin. I know you had honorable intentions. !*salute*!
That would most likely be a handy tool for someone like me that has a lot of models I made for MSTS that I might want to convert over to RW, but for every one honest person there's probably 5 dishonest.

I don't know if anyone here is familiar with an s file converter that was made available for MSTS a few years ago and it generated quite a stink for the same reason. The developer finally pulled it from public accessibility, although I saw that it did creep back into the limelight recently over at TS.

That's an awfully cynical attitude, Ed. It's my opinion that the opposite is more likely: that one bad apple might exist out of every five. I'm not a fan of the tool, as I think it promotes lazy modeling rather than outright thievery.

Here at RWA, I don't think many people would want to steal others repaints and objects. Honestly, if I had that I would use it for personal game and not tho upload anything. There are very few members he I would suspect as a copier.
