Skunk Train Route Fort Bragg To Willits California

Unread postby dleeboy » Tue Jan 28, 2014 7:44 pm

This is a new Freeware Route I am working on. The route is 40 miles Long and it is located in California It starts in Fort Bragg and goes to Willits. My goal is to make this as accurate as I can make it. The route goes through the California Redwoods. It is a scenic route and is based on the actual Skunk Railroad Train ride. On the Old California Western Railroad Route. I am using some freeware scenery and some pay ware. I will package my Dem Data with the Route so the terrain is accurate. I need to contact some of the Scenery creators to get permission to use their scenery. This is a Freeware route for every one to enjoy. Any help would be appreciated. Some of the scenery that I am using to build this route is 3Dtrains Tracks Roads and Trees. Greatnorthern, GTrax, Recap, Sad, SMM Digital UKTS_FP. The RSC Payware routes are Marias Pass, Sherman Hill, Pacific Surfliner, Horseshoe Curve, Donner Pass, Stevens Pass and RSDL. If any one can help me on how to get in touch with the original creators of the scenery that I am using that would be great. I would also like some help in how to post screen shots on this forum. I can't seem to get it to work. I am sending a link to YouTube showing a Video I made of what the route looks like. I am interested I any feedback help is wanted. I know I can not make it just like it is but I would like to make it as close as I can. I have finished all the scenery up to the Redwood Lodge which is 10 miles into the Route. http://youtu.be/41BFubupA5w

Impressive! I'm sure others will correct me if necessary, but as far as I know those freeware scenery dependencies you mentioned can be used with a simple mention of thanks in the readme for the route. I used them in my route like that.

As long as you don't charge for the route, most creators don't mind you using their "stuff". It's pretty much covered in the third party creator's "readme" files, and in Dovetail/ RSC's EULA. But it never hurts to ask. *!!wink!!* Of course, you also want to make sure that someone downloading your route has all the payware needed. Again, in a readme file.

You have two posts now, so you should be able to upload an attachment (instructions at the top of the main Forum page) or, like I do, I upload screen shots to my Photo Bucket account, then link to there from this Forum.

And, *&!welcome!&* . Look forward to seeing the progress on your new route! Sounds interesting. !!*ok*!!

Looking good!

Don't use too many 3rd-party assets, even freeware. There's a point when it becomes too much trouble for the player to gather and install everything.

Interesting route, but I would say that you should use less payware items then this, about using assets from 1 or 2 payware routes is acceptable, but using payware assets from 5 different payware routes or more becomes too much trouble for the player most of the time since they have to buy several different routes just to enjoy the route.

One should use a lot more local freeware items to decorate a proper freeware route to make it a ton bit easier for the player. The best way to do this is such as using freeware models from only RWA to decorate the route.

I would love to run the route in the future, but at the moment the way it stands I'll never be able to run it since I don't have the payware routes and can't afford to get them, so it would be of little use for me to download the route later.

I thank every one for their comments. I took some of the Payware routes out. But I am too far along to take more out. I am sorry it would change the route too much. To keep it like it is I have to keep Donner Pass, Sherman Hill, Marias Pass, GTrax Routes Portland and DSNG. I took out Pacific Surfliner, Horseshoe Curve and Stevens Pass. I could start over but I don't want to do that. This started out Just as a route for me but it stated to look good so I thought I would share it with others. Let me know what all of you think and if I should continue. I could keep it for myself but I want to share it with others. I thank everyone for their help.

By all means continue.
As Buzz said, lots of people have all those routes.
I was just offering advice for the future.
