Well, that's a good idea but right now I have only two people in sitting position and putting them on a horse doesn't look very realistic if their legs disappear in the horse *!greengrin!*

After leaving Lookout there is just a short climb...
Screenshot_1 Cheyenne 1869 Extension Laramie Plains_41.67591--105.83802_14-55-54.jpg

until we reach the highest point of the line between Laramie and Medicine Bow.

For a short time the line of 1869 and the modern route run at the same grade.

But not for long...

Thanks Mike. Same for your Promontory Route !*cheers*!

And here is some more progress :D

With an 180 degree turn to the right followed by another 90 degree turn to the left, we now no longer share the grade with the modern route.
Screenshot_1 Cheyenne 1869 Extension Laramie Plains_41.70213--105.88508_15-01-01.jpg

And we won't rejoin the present railroad until we reach Medicine Bow.
Screenshot_1 Cheyenne 1869 Extension Laramie Plains_41.70908--105.87454_15-02-20.jpg

The original roadbed is 12 miles longer between here and Medicine Bow than the current one, the greatest disparity in distances between old and new for the entire line from Omaha to Ogden.

We're now moving northbound and following the Miser Creek (now Meiser Creek) to the next station which gots its name from the creek.

And the next update :D

We are now just ahead of the Cannonball Cut. In the race to Promontory the railroad workers built a temporary track around the hill...
Screenshot_1 Cheyenne 1869 Extension Laramie Plains_41.74623--105.82898_15-14-59.jpg

until they later straighten the track as they made the cut.

I haven't found an exact date, but the cut has been made within the next few years after the completion of the railroad

As for the mounted people, you should move them forward to just behind the withers. The legs won’t show at all when they’re in the proper position. Might look a little better that way, though.

I believe the gentleman from France who did the 1870 Montana line has mounted horsemen assets.

I've checked this but it's the same as I did. A horse and a sitting man on it. It's ok in distant but looks a bit strange if it's next to you.

Today I'll try to inspire the asset builders among us *&!welcome!&*

After Miser the next station is Rock Creek and the special thing about this abandoned town is, that there exist 'actual' pictures from 1975. Even some technical drawings from the water tower are avialable *!lol!*
It would be great to replicate Rock Creek as good as possible in the sim.
Here are some pictures from the town.

Superb! The overall route must be around 100 miles currently, right?

RWInfo shows me 150 miles mainline and 165 miles in total.

I wouldn't put too much faith in the figures RWInfo gives you. For example, if you bring up the stock Cheyenne 1869 route, it says it has over 41 miles of mainline, whereas it's actually about 27 miles including the 2-mile spur to Camp Carlin. On my Promontory route, it says it's more than 91 miles, but in reality it's about 76 miles. A better way to check the mileage is to create a simple standard scenario with a loco that starts at one end of the line and put its destination at the other end, then F3/F4 will tell you how far it is.

OK, I didn't knew that RWInfo shows wrong values. !**conf**!

In a end to end scenario the route is 135 miles long.

Does RW tools calculate the cumulative length of all the track laid, or just mainline? Wouldn't two mainline tracks running parallel technically double the value RW tools shows?

Whether 150 or 135 it's still quite impressive, End to end is gonna take a whole day. ;)
