In Trainz you can play any boat, airplane, paraglidder, helicopter etc. as a normal railway engine (as AI or Player, in RW3 jargon) on invisible tracks in the "air". I don't own Trains X Zumbies pack, but how did RSC has put a train running in the air? Isn't it in the same way? I mean (invisible) track in the air?

Progress on the airship, it's coming along nicely, very soon the route builder will be able to use it in there routes to really add some flare.

Zeppelin Airship Progress 3.jpg

The skin texture is working really well, makes it look like the real thing. Each square would have all been sewed together one by one to make the airship's outer skin.

Ship gets it's name.

A little more progress. Just about have the one side completed and finished the bottom. Also put the loading doors on the bottom for the hanger, or also known as the cargo hold.

Here we have the loading hanger where they would open the cargo hold doors on the bottom of the airship and load cargo into it.

Installed the engine cars and the nose hook. Next is the propellers to go on the engine cars.

Zeppelin Airship Progress 5.jpg

Unfortunately it will still be a while before I release this, still have a lot of work to do on it, including building the tunnels into the engine cars. Yes, someone would have controlled them from inside, very noisy job.

This one is only 160 feet long but the next one I build will be even longer.

Some progress on the airship. I got the propellers made and added to the engine cars.
Propellers might look small in some of the pictures, but they are huge, each is about three times taller then a RW man, about 17 feet high and the axle would have been about two to three feet thick.

I also got it sized and set to the spot where it will sit in the game.

Giant's Of The Sky Return in Railworks 2012. A Blast from 1936

Unread postby jpetersjr » Thu Aug 02, 2012 10:02 am

The giant in the sky, it's 150 feet long and 14 stories high, it's the biggest thing to fly in Railworks sky. It had a top speed of about 70 miles per hour flying, but in 1936, that's was the fastest way to travel. Before the jet airplane, before the passenger airplane. Back then airplane's were just being introduced a little after the Wright brother's famous flight and it was either travel by airship or travel by ocean liner, by airship the passengers could get from USA to Germany in just a couple days.

Zeppelin airship propeller size compared to RW man.
The propellers on these giants of the sky were huge, had to be huge to move the giant beast around.

A new airship project.
This one is 750 feet long, 125 feet high and 115 feet wide, it will be the biggest thing to fly in Railworks 3.

Airships in their time were like a flying titanic, just gigantic in size.
Zeppelin Airship 2 Progress 1 B.jpg

Zeppelin Airship 2 Progress 1.jpg

Zeppelin Airship 2 Progress 1 D.jpg

Zeppelin Airship 2 Progress 1 C.jpg

Zeppelin Airship 2 Progress 2 A.jpg

At the top you can just make out the crows nest sticking out of the front of the airship and on the bottom you can make out the control car and several feet behind it the main passenger loading car. Used for loading the passengers on while on the ground.

For something so big it's come out real good on poly level. Just a little over 6000 as it stands now. Something like this probably won't be seen too much on any route, maybe once of twice on one route most likely.

Later I'll convert this into the USA flying aircraft carrier.

Progress on the new airship, leave it to be known that this one is the exact same size as the Hindenburg, but this one will be named Argus.

The new airship compared to the size of the older one.

And here's the reference that was used to model the airship's main shape. To get the main shape right I built it from a blueprint.

Still have a lot more to do on the airship before it will be finished, but tested the airship in the game so far. So far it's looking great, once finished it will be the biggest thing to fly in RW sky. Several city blocks long and several stories high it will be huge. I have already sized it to the correct size, this is how big they would have been believe it or not.

The airship height compared to building.
Zeppelin Airship 2 Test E.jpg

It would have weighed millions of pounds, but when it was filled up with helium it would have been lighter than air and one person could drag it out of the hanger by a string and the string wouldn't snap.
