DD40X Enhancement

Unread postby Machinist » Sun Mar 04, 2012 4:32 pm

Great and huge Beast! !*brav*! Lovely cab and awesome horn, so far the best I've heard ever !*drool*!

After a short informations' interchanging with Lord Mannu he kindly gave me his permission to fix one of the lights (the fix will be in the next DD40X update on Steam) and publish a kind of enhancement. So... I didn't lose time *!lol!*

This enhancement pack requires the RSC DLC "DD40X Add-on Pack", available on Steam DLC Store.

Features:
1) Modified: Headlights and Rearlights; Tweaked: Strobe light (N), Tail(red)lights (twice H) and Steplights (Control+Shift+H).
2) Added: Conductor.
3) Modified: Cab and Headout views.
4) Two freeroam scenarios on "Barstow to San Bernardino" Route: "Show Case DD40X at day" and "at night" to you test and see the power of pack.
I suggest to play the freeroam "at night":
a) Ride the engine Centennial in front of you, check the lighting features.
b) Go forward (exploring cab and headout views) and couple to the tank car ahead.
c) Decouple from the tank and move backwards (explore headout backward views and rearlight) and stop beside the other engine named "Type 01 to Pink Tower".
d) Jump to it (or in external view click on engine to ride it) and move forward. Don't exceed 40mph (track is in maintenance) and obey restricted speed limit close to Pink Tower (check on F4) in order to enjoy the events close to the track (feel free to blast the awesome horn).
e) After the Pink Tower curve (a couple miles from Helendale) you will meet the return passenger consist "Type 02 to Helendale", plenty of UK tourists visiting the route. Jump to it (or click in any part of consist to ride it) and stop at Helendale "Siding 2" (set the junctions!).

As I use to do, four install versions:
1) Normal (250m headlight).
2) Extreme (500m), new setting which provide nice external views and meetings.
3) HFPS, higher fps (wich doesn't cast shadows), recommended only for low specs rigs.
4) Restore default (no need of previous backup etc.)

Cheers,
Doc.

Once a friend has reported problems with the install pack (I installed the whole pack 5 times, one for scretch, and all gone fine !*don-know!*) , out of caution I'm calling two (brave) volunteers on betatest. Just PM-me.

Cheers,
Doc.

Will this pack work with the non-steam version?

!*don-know!* I own only Steam version, and the enhancement is on the new engine, therefore supposedly will work with the new engine pack (if not Steam have to be updated directly with author). *!!wink!!*

I don't see why it shouldn't work, Sam. It really is basically the same updated engine either way we got it. I'll let you know! This looks too good not to try! Thanks again, Doc! Your enhancement packs are top notch. !!*ok*!! !*salute*!

It should but you may have to install it manually.

@Chris: thank you for the nice words...

@Glen: Hum... if DD40X original version is installed on a different folder you may be right... Some RSC TS2012 updates came on same folder replacing previous version, but at least ICE (free updated for owners of RW2 ICE) was installed in a different folder preserving the previous asset version untouchable and still usable.

@Sam: what are the folders of original version? Steam version are:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\DTM\DD40X (main directory)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\DTM\DD40X\6936
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\DTM\DD40X\Type01
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\DTM\DD40X\Type02

Cya,

The non steam version is in this folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\railworks\Assets\DTM\DD40X\Type01

Looks like a manual install will work.

Did you download it from here?

I just checked it and had no problem unzipping it.

Looks like a manual install will work.

Don't you have also the Type 02 and the 6936 centennial livery, of pics on first post? These two new liveries are full TS2012 (lighting and rain effects) and have also Strobe Beam. Are they only for Steam owners, then?
The Type 01 doesn't have strobe, now I understand why, but was upgraded and now have all the other lighting and rain effects...
Please answer the questions above before I can proceed on further instructions... Anyway, looks like an automatic (no manual) install will work, however you will get to play only the Type 01 livery, of course.

The zip file was fully tested (4 beta testers), I just downloaded it twice in two differents machines (Win XP and Win7) and unzipped fine. You can download it again or/and read the "Readme" on File LIbrary with extra instructions to unzip and install the pack.

Only one version is included in the original DTM upgrade.
