Today being the 31st of July, here's what we have so far in the interface. I put in red, my own words, the letters not covered yet but as it stands, we have most of the letters filled in with your descriptions of the letters above. :D

Not bad class, but we should fill in the red letters before long because the interface is important to know.

Next class we start is What Is Modeling? We'll start off talking about Primitives as the basic building blocks to our models. Stay tuned. :D

YW....Yes, there are a lot of goodies I am learning and will have great fun playing with them. Thank god those night shifts are over for this round, I completely misread and goofed in looking and reading Rich's updated exam picture.

Extra treat today… **!!bang!!** so we will have an extra called N.
First up the Red I shown in Rich’s selection above for us with 8.2 Pro is called the Show Shapes icon. Basically, by clicking on this icon it hides all the shapes. I would have thought you could select a particular shape and by clicking this icon it would hide that selected shape only, but it doesn’t as far as I can work out…it hides all shapes.
To hide a particular shape, highlight it , right click and tick the hide selection. This option would certainly help if you have to fine tune a particular shape that was embedded amongst other shapes.
Anyway..back to Rich’s exam, the I is the Show Shapes icon and as shown by the pictures below it “Hides the Shapes”

Now my goof…the new N. This is called the Material Preview icon as shown by A ( Myself, I would call it the Texture Preview and something you would use to view or test before you actually textured your object. )
In my picture below, say for instance you were texturing the roof of this so called shed. You have all the side textures done ( 1 & 2 ) and you had three or four rusted types of roof textures and wasn’t sure which would one be suitable.
You would highlight the roof face ( 3a ) select the Material Panel ( B ) look for your roof texture in the Texture Library and select it ( 3 in this example ). This texture will show in the Material Palette as indicated by the circle.
Now click on the Material Preview icon ( A ) and the texture will show on your object as indicated by ( 3a ). In leaving the Material Preview icon ( A ) selected you can now toggle ( left clicking each ) your roof textures in the library until you are satisfied which one was suitable.

!*cheers*!
Gordon.

This is the K item and this area is called the Edit Toolbar.

edittoolbar.jpg

The very top tool is the Component Selection Tool. It is also just a default mouse pointer. Click on something and it gets selected. The blue lines around my whale form show it is selected.

The next tool that looks just like a square is the Point/Edge/Face Tool. Like it's name it allows you to select a point, line or face on your model and then manipulate it. You can also selected multiple faces by holding CONTROL down while selecting. When you have a face selected you can edit it with edit tools and manipulate it however you desire.

Next down is the Rectangle Selection tool. This lets you draw a rectangle on the screen and selects every item in the rectangle.

The next tool that looks like two arrows is the Operation Adjust Tool. I am not sure what this tool is for as all I can get it to do is move the object around the screen. (no picture shown)

Next one down is the Deform Tool. This lets you select a point on your shape and deform it. A small blue circle appears and points are glowing. Click and drag to make it deform.

The next tool down is the Shift Tool. It looks just like the Navigation gizmo in the left corner. This lets you move your model all around the screen. (no picture shown)

Next down is the Paint Tool. It looks like a paintbrush and of course it lets you paint parts of your model.

Next is the Fill Tool. This lets you paint the entire object all at once.

Next is the Material Sampling Tool, it looks like an eye dropper. If you click it on something on the screen, it will change your paint color to the color of the item you clicked. Then you can paint your object in that chosen color.

Last is the Rotation Axis Tool and I have no idea what this one even does. It looks like a little figure with it;s arms stretched out to me.
