Question between Railworks and Trains 12

Unread postby Noel » Sat May 11, 2013 3:03 pm

Even though I liked Trainz, it had its down sides. The Speedtree that was included brought my computer to it's knees countless times. And I never was able to get an First Class Ticket for the Download Station for the game. That made me mad enough to uninstall the game and never think about installing it again. I might get Trainz 12 soon and get a New Auran Account to go with it. Maybe be able to get a FCT to go with it as well.

The previous version of Trainz, which was 2010, I grew disgruntled with, mainly because of something called Speedtrees- which were moving trees trackside. They didn't work well and took off with much of my computer's power, frame rates etc.The best Trainz were previous to these which you could have much fun with, like 2004 or 2006.

I don't know how many times I've heard people that formerly played Trainz say how difficult it was to Asset Hunt. Going through the Trainz forums I didn't find any instance of a former Railworks player that thought Trainz was better and switched...I think that speaks for itself. The biggest thing I notice more than anything though is that the forums over there is no where near as close as we are here. Just go through the forums for one page and a majority of what you see is people complaining about the game. And then there is the fact that there is no Developer interaction over there in the least.

But, the point is, should I go with Trainz 2010 or just stick with Railworks?

*!!thnx!!*

Stick wit Railworks. I have both trainz12 and railworks (every version) and I can tell you this, with my old pc I could run RW with tsx on and settings on medium detail hitting around 25fps, now on the same pc running trainz12 going on the lowest settings as possible I would maybe hit at the best of times 15fps. but on average it was around 5-10fps. I couldn't even figure out how to install add-ons for that game either, and yea everywhere you look its just people complaining about problems in the game. RW has way less issues, although still not perfect but at least our devs are still working hard on improving the product.

So in conclusion, just power on with Railworks and leave the pain trainz12 back on that abandoned siding

Stick with Railworks. I don't have much nice things to say about Trainz.

Ok. I am with Railworks for now on. Maybe if I can get an Alienware PC, I'll get Trainz 12.

From the guidelines:"We ask that references or comparisons to other sims be minimized and kept in context with a positive attitude, or not used at all, so we can keep this experience a positive one."

Since you all said Railworks I guess it's OK.

I quit with Trainz for a reason- I hated it after I played RW. The way that you would just tip outwards when flying around a curve and the way the sounds were and how terrible controlling a train was. Yeah, I'm never going back to that night mare. It should be called an arcade game, that's all it is. I haven't played Run 8 yet, but I hope to once they release their version of the ARR and P42DC. And I'm sure that will be a huge step-up in the physics/sim side compared to RW, but I believe RW has the best overall balance of performance, graphical quality (actually it's the BEST), and reasonable physics performance for those of us who modify our cars.

Edit: Now that I see Run8 is planning on making the CSX A-Line, I may be more willing to try their sim out for a while. It seems like RSC will need to start making some changes around here if they want to keep me enticed. You can't have a better P42DC and the A-Line (although it would likely not be the section where I live) in your sim without making me want to switch. Those are my two favorite things! Not trying to bash RSC, but I'm just saying they have kinda had all focus on Europe the past month and they won't create any Eastern roads like CSX or NS.

To add one more train to the mix... try Open Rails. It may surprise you how far they have gotten. Having said that, I will end by saying that I spend 98% of my time using RW.

I use them all. They each have their merits.

Each sim has a strength that the others don't possess.

I have msts, trainz and TS2013. I play TS almost exclusively. Haven't played trainz in over a year, and stopped msts when TS brought out Marias Pass...TS has almost everything MSTS does..

to be honest, i think 12 is pretty good, along with railworks. i play them both and sometimes enjoy one over the other. You should be fine as long as you don't look at the down sides, like graphic details etc etc

Trainz has, and at this rate always will have an extremely outdated graphics and physics engine. However, it is far easier to create content for Trainz then railworks (except maybe buildings)

Once you get the tools to, RW is easy too.
