I'm not sure if any of you have ever visited Sioux Falls, SD and seen the BNSF yard is in the middle of downtown. In the past six years, the government funded the city to get 35 million to get environmental studies done on specific areas that the yard could be relocated to and to pay BNSF Railway to get the yard moved. However, you'll see in the links that they have a few areas marked out; but residents are not wanting a rail yard in their backyard.
(I think that is how the funding is going)
Since 2012 has started, I have been seeing more topics on the local news stations about this project. They want to add a new siding on the Canton sub heading south to trains can park on that line instead of parking on mainline after the last crew got off. The following links are to the new stories about this.
