Q209 is a Walbridge, OH to IHB Chicago train, I saw this Friday so maybe they cut the power and put it on a southbound.

Some weird orange stuff.....

A great surprise on the CN! The third unit was broken down on this guy and he had 600+ axles. In the still morning air, this guy could be heard for miles. Not only his awesome horn, but the sound of an EMD 645 working hard could be heard for miles and miles.

I got stuck at a local crossing this morning, pulled to the curb, had my camera, was gonna take pics of the lashup at least, cop pulls up and tells me the TSA says I can't take pics here. WTF, over? The TSA? Really? He was gonna take me in for a spy or something. Good grief. Gimme a break. Was a nice lashup, too. All BNSF, but the orange ones, a few Warbonnets and old Yellow Bonnets. 6 diesels and at least 100 double stacks. I must have sat there for half an hour, they can only do 25MPH thru this area.

He's BS'ing you. As long as you aren't trespassing on railroad property and/or taking photos in a place where doing so is strictly and explicitly prohibited (e.g. military installation; there will be signs), you are fine. Cop was in the wrong place at the wrong time for you...

I was over to the right of the crossing gates on the ballast so I could get a nice shot, so I suppose I could have been trespassing. That crossing is two tracks, then splits into two sidings where they store deep well cars from the harbor, so the ROW is huge there.

Only time you should worry about trespassing is if you are obstructing Railway ops. Like a railyard or some switch work is going on. Usually only the mean cops say something if you are too close.

FWIW, I railfan on some fairly rural subdivisions on BNSF and UP. Railway cops are scarce as hens teeth, and usually the regular cops have better things to do then go around harassing railfans.

He was a Torrance city cop, and was stuck like I was behind a long, slow train. Guess he had nothing better to do. I live in Lomita, which is Sheriff territory, they all know me after 20 years her, I have no issues at all with them. I just got a warning is all.

Moving on, I was at the local, small Lomita RR museum and snagged some pics, this was a while back:




Nice little display, I am a charter member, I have a brick with my name on it in the walkway. Heck, what's $20 a year to support this nice little museum!
