Memorial Day Rush

Unread postby artimrj » Tue May 15, 2018 6:55 am

Aah it's that time of year again. My occupation is geared around memorial Day. Everyone wants their stone for that day. However all the granite is not here yet. I have 32,000 pounds coming from the south and I have 45,000 coming from China. The southern truck will be here today or tomorrow we hope and the container from China will be here the 22nd. In the last 2 weeks we cut 180 units. I carved 70 roses. I am tired and swamped. Getting too old for this stuff. Fortunately I got a new guy 5 months ago and he is just like me. He fell right into just about everything. I let him practice on scrap granite for a few weeks then stuck him on the real monuments. I was in awe how quickly he took it on.

ANyway I am busy with the real world, my job. You most likely will not see me much until after Memorial Day, nor will my wife...

Uploads will be posted as I get a chance.

I admire your work ethics. I've been lettering trucks and signs since 1975 and am in the process of retiring. Years of working Saturdays and Sundays have burned me out of this trade. Its very hard to find younger folks to come into the trade. Interesting projects are far and few between. Now to enjoy life. !!*ok*!!

I can take care of uploads except the coming week-end, because I'll be invading the USA on Friday May 18th for a few days.

Well the Chinese container got stuck in customs won't get it until late next week. About 11 families will be mad about no stone for Memorial Day. But we got another truck from Vermont coming this morning with more goodies on it.

I am tired. Weather sucks. Brighter days are coming.

Hope all you will be safe this Memorial Day. Lots of cars on the highway and not everyone drives as carefully as they should. I will be leading the choir at my church for a Memorial Day Celebration on Sunday and playing orchestra clarinet on Monday for a civic event.
