Anyone have a question about steam?

I have a question about power-assisted reversers. Are they driven by compressed air or by steam?

Lima designed the Connie with an option to include a power-assisted reverser, but I decided to leave it out.

The ones I have dealt with are all air powered. The 844 for example has either an ALCO Type G power assist or a Franklin Type E, I cannot remember which one, maybe your plans will tell? With that in mind thats not to say that there was not any steam powered ones out there, as I have only dealt with air.

Also, you see that yellow handle in 844's cab?

Thats and "Oh sh!t" measure. That handle is used in case of emergency. It will admit steam to the power reverse in case you lost your air.

That's the kind of info I need for 844, thanks!

I probably won't enable the emergency, because I'll need the limited quota of control variables for other things, but it's still good to know what things are for.

There's a limit for control variables?

Yes, there's a limit to how many you can define in the engine blueprint. if you put one more variable in (actually the field is called "control value"), the blueprint editor starts to have problems displaying the blueprint and eventually it can't even open it next time you try. That's another reason why I make backups of my blueprints before changing anything. the limit (71 was the most I could squeeze into the Connie) is a nuisance. There were plenty more things I could have simulated, but I had to choose. The only way to get something else in was to take something out. That's why only the right hand storm window opens. I had to sacrifice the left hand one to make room for something else.
