Narrow interests

Unread postby KCJones » Sat Aug 08, 2015 7:18 am

The next project.

My own set of narrow gauge track, 3ft. Here is a lofted trestle, about half a mile of it over the interior of the RWA route!!
No point in building embankments as there is so much wood around.

Nice addition! Will this work for making a bridge over a canyon?

Yes, but this is the limit. Off screen to the left the bottom of the posts is visable. !*don-know!*

This is in the Marias pass by the way.

By the way is any one having trouble with the wood burning shay? !*hp*!

Yes, It is showing up in the list of assets but I am unable to actually place it in a scenario. The model does not show up.

Nice work, Dick! However, that open span is going to need some additional support unless that Shay is a feather weight! *!lol!*
Cheers!

Think that open span could still use a little bit more support.

They had at least half support going down to just above the height of a vehicle, usually just big enough for a log semi.

Now that your getting into the narrow gauge, you should look at makin some stuff to go with the Durango and Silverton route, like a K-28 or K-36. *!!wink!!*

Is it possible to make functional dual gauge track that would allow an interchange with a logging branch for loading/unloading? Even if were non-functional it could make for an interesting focal point.

The problem is that the rolling stock is aligned to the center of the track loft. So if you have the normal dual gauge three rail system (one outer rail being common to both gauges) either all the narrow gauge stock or all the standard gauge stock will have to be built off center. To add to this complication the off center rolling stock will always have to be put on its track pointing in the same direction to appear to be running on its rails. Therefore loops Ys and turn tables though able to work would produce odd visual effects. Dummy dual tracks could be built but then you have to choose which gauge it is actually for. The fun of dual track is having the two gauges' rolling stock interchanging.

Note how the wheels of the 2-6-6-2 front unit overhang the ng track.
