What happened to Sly? He released an American locomotive and no one complained, and it was generally well received on every forum and he hasn't been heard from since. We must have scared him into hiding.

When I start to march in Big Boy model i not see the output of steam in =
the cylinders, as in the video demonstration can be seen. Am I doing =
something wrong? I always play in "simple"mode.
At Big Boy does not have the figures of drivers. You could not make a =
correction and there these figures? Have more fun with pictures of =
drivers in the cab.
Anyway a beautiful model and a good job.
I would ask if you can made a beautiful model of Garratt. I traveled a =
lot on trains pulled by these beautiful machines in Africa where I came =
from.

Vitor, you should always use at least "Intermedeadate" skill level with a steam locomotive. Then, hit the F5 key twice to give you all the interreactions. You will have to get used to the controls. These beasts take a few tries to get used to. Learn the controls, train brakes, reverser , etc. A steam loco is very different than a diesel or electric. Welcome to the Forum, BTW. !*salute*!

Finally got around to acquiring the Big Boy after feasting on assorted diesels. What a Beast !!*ok*!!
The modeling is simply breath-taking, from near or far. Was taken back by the "builder's plate"--a detail that was seldom possible or executed in MSTS.
Particularly impressed by the throttle, reverser and brakes. Either by design or chance, the locomotive performs in a manner that approaches the better MSTS efforts; for example, the Train Artisan NYC Hudsons !*cheers*! .
Finally, though the smoke output is "less" than prototype, it is still real and has a nice gaseous quality.
Sly, how about an ATSF 5000 Class 2-10-4? Your skill begs for more challenges,

Keep 'em coming,
Dave

i just bought the big boy and it looks great, but seems to be lacking some power such as that i can only haul 10 shermans out of the yard and up the hill without stalling on the 2% grade.
then again all the locos in the game seem to be a bit underpowerd to an extent.

What do you mean u set the front frame as a dead locomotive? I want to make sure Im not doing this. I do have a question though. I myself can only get the Big boy up to about 63-64 mph with out a load and on flat surface. I dont know what Im doing wrong. I do my best to trim down the reverser and throttle but cant get the engine going any faster. How on earth can anyone get that beast to 80mph is beyond me...however sure would like to know.

Also, Im on the San Bernadino free roam route starting on a flat surface. Im pulling about 40-45 loaded wagons, mostly containers. Im using a double header with two big boys. I may get to about 30mph but when the grade, hits, at about 2.2% I start to lose it. Now I know a little bit of loss is find but it seems that once the numbers start to drop, for the life of me I cant get it to stop! I end up moving up the hill with two big boys at about 7-10 mph..Is this normal? I would think two big boys could pull that many wagons up that grade at atleast a cool 50mph. Hell I would think one big boy could pull that load at 40mph up the hill.

For u pro steamers out there am I expecting to much from the big boy, is this normal speeds for this many cars or am I completely off base here?

did you make shure your steam chest pressure stayed high? the lower it is the les pulling power you have. to get it higher you must cut back on your usage rate and create a larger fire. I hit 88MPH on the big boy and 100 on the challenger! it is all about your pressure and usage rates plus your fire mass.
